Couponing for a Greater Cause

The most gratifying moments of all my deal-hounding, penny pinching, and coupon clipping come from seeing my efforts reaped in other people's lives. My primary mission with this site and in my personal life has always been to be a good steward of our finances so that we can be servants to others.

I have found that not only are my efforts saving us money but we have been blessed with an abundance of food and household items... more than we ever had before I started clipping coupons and certainly more than we need. I truly feel that this is God's hand not only providing in an abundance for our family, but using our frugal findings as a way to serve others. He's good like that!

About a month ago I decided it was time to clean out the stockpile spots around the house and came up with two baskets full of food to donate. I emptied our closets with donation clothing and ransacked the playroom scooping up toys that I know will be make another child happy. It didn't even make a dent in what we own -- and we won't miss any of it. Not one bit.

We still have plenty of food left over in our pantries and even a good amount in our stockpile. I know that I can always work on building it back up but, really, am I going to feel good about having a year's worth of close-to expired food in my pantry knowing there are thousands of hungry bellies out there? Not one bit.

Maybe it's a local shelter, food bank, church, neighbor, or even a family member... But I guarantee you there is someone out there you could use just a smidgen of what you're saving. I think of all the toothpastes I already have and know that I, personally, do not need any more. BUT, if I know I can get it for FREE or even a few cents, why not pick it up for someone who may need it? Sounds cliché , but you never really know the impact of such tiny sacrifices.

So many people are struggling right now -- without jobs, without food, without homes. Please find a way to serve your own community and give back, however you can -- with time, money, prayers, food, toys, clothing.

I know we're smart, savvy servants so here's a few coupons that would be great for toys and non-perishables...*If you find anymore to add to the list, please let me know!

  1. Excellent post! Thank you for the reminder to share our blessings with others and for all you do to help us find deals. I'm loving being able to step it up a notch with giving, even when our income has decreased, thanks to coupons, freebies and special offers. I was able to get 2 Christmas potato heads yesterday for $.99 each with coupons---one for gift and one to donate.

  2. Thank you for this post! You are helping so many people out in these trying times. Things are tight for me for a few months, so I've had to be really judicious with my money. You've really helped me get by, and helped me have more so I can be generous with others.

I was just thinking about how cool the Good Deal Gal was yesterday when I was in Target scooping up some bargains on sale and with coupons. Thank you for sharing your wisdom!
