As a former teacher, I know that reading never starts too early and should be introduced to children at a very early age. Fostering a love of reading is easy to do and builds life-long skills while expanding creativity.
Over the past seven years, Cheerios Spoonfuls of Stories has given away more than 35 million children's books by distributing them free inside cereal boxes and has donated nearly $3 million to First Book, their non-profit partner, which provides books to children from low-income families.
In addition to encouraging children to read, Cheerios is looking for anyone interested in writing children's books. Now in its third year, the Cheerios Spoonfuls of Stories New Author Contest is a way to encourage previously unpublished, up-and-coming children's book authors and to continue to nurture a love of reading. Entries are being accepted March 16 through July 15, 2009 and will be judged on appropriate story and content for children ages 3-8, emotional connection, writing quality, uniqueness, and read-aloud potential. More details on the contest can be found at www.spoonfulsofstoriescontest.
Are you or someone you know an aspiring children's book author? You could be the next BIG winner and help encourage millions of children everywhere with your words!!
Now, the fun part...
To help spread the word and remind us about the importance of literature, Cheerios and My BlogSpark have teamed up to bring one lucky reader FOUR Picture Books from the Spoonfuls library. (We LOVED these stories, especially "Duck for President!") These books are great for preschool-elementary aged children with their cute story lines and even bilingual text!!

ReplyDeleteMy favorite story is the I love you story. It is about a mom who throughout the years puts her son to bed and sings him a song telling him she will love him froever and always. It Shows her as a new mom and in the end (Moms or adults know) that the mom grows old and dies but the son had a daughter and he continues the tradition and it makes me cry all the time. I now tell my girls that I will love them forever and always.
My favorite is The Giving Tree. But as a former Elem. teacher, I too, have tons of faves. Thanks for entering me!
